Vision and Scope
The mission of this university is to educate students, to conduct basic and applied research, and provide needed services to our constituents and communities. To achieve this mission the University is constantly changing. Sometimes in small ways such as moving from providing "in-line" registration for term-bound classes to providing "on-line" registration for "anytime" classes. Sometimes in large ways, for example, it is now possible to earn a degree without ever setting foot on campus and the demands for such programs and the services they require are growing. Faculties engaged in research use sophisticated technology to assist in their investigations and complex administrative support to help manage their grants. Our desire to become a "destination urban university" and increase our research will require even more technology. Services to our communities, such as library access, would be impossible today without the ability to provide on-line searches and digital documents while still providing printed materials to checkout for our many community patrons. It has now become normal for our constituents to expect to manage their relationships and information with the University on-line. They also expect every office within the University to be aware of these relationships and be willing and able to assist them with changes without the person having to make several stops at different campus locations to complete a single transaction such as changing an address. This project and the people assigned to it are charged to implement a fully integrated digital campus system and, in doing so, to be the catalyst that will enable the University of Memphis to simplify and improve processes, expand our services, and create an environment of efficient and effective support that will assist the University to become one of the nation's great metropolitan universities.
